Theatre fest to celebrate Lucky Enam's 60th birthday


A six-day theatre festival to celebrate the 60th birthday of actor-director Lucky Enam begins today at the National Theatre Hall, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. Enam's troupe Nagarik Natyangan in association with Shilpakala Academy will arrange the fest that will feature six plays directed and performed by her.
Six well known journalists along with 40 underprivileged children will formally inaugurate the festival this evening at the National Theatre Hall. Veteran actor-director Ataur Rahman, also convener of the festival committee, will preside over the inaugural session. Theatre personality Nasiruddin Yousuff; former adviser to the Caretaker Government Rasheda K. Chowdhury and Director General of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy Liaquat Ali Lucky will be present as special guests.
The festival will commence with the staging of Arthur Miller's “Pussy Cat and a Real Man”. The festival will also feature Rabindranath Tagore's “Muktir Upay”, Dipak Sen's “Sharoma”, Mahmudul Islam Selim's writing based on a Manik Bandyopadhyay short story “Pragoitihashik”, Dr. Enamul Haq's Liberation War chronology “Sheishob Dingulo” and Shahman Moishan's new play for National Theatre Repertory “Bideh”.
Apart from staging of plays, the festival will also feature a photography exhibition and rendition of songs at the National Theatre Hall lobby.
Lucky Enam is one of the veterans of the Neo Theatre Movement of the country. The organisers will also celebrate four decades of her acting career at the event.
Plays will be staged everyday at 7pm. The festival will continue till September 9.
