Locals demand arrest of killers

More than 300 vehicles remained stranded on both sides of the Dhaka-Sylhet highway yesterday as protesters formed a human chain on the highway demanding immediate arrest of the killers of journalist Junaid Ahmed.
Hundreds of people including school-going children and journalists formed the 2km long human chain at Fultoli bazaar in Nabiganj upazila of Habiganj.
Traffic returned to normal around 1:30pm.
Meanwhile, Habiganj TV Journalists' Association formed a human chain in front of the deputy commissioner's office where mayor of Habiganj municipality, GK Gous, and leaders of different organisations participated.
The speakers demanded arrest of Junaid's killers within 72 hours and said if their demand was not met on time tougher agitation would be called.
They also demanded punishment to the killers of journalist couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi and other journalists murdered all over the country.
On the night of July 10, Junaid Ahmed, a reporter of local newspaper Daily Bibiana and general secretary of Gazipur union Jubo Dal, went missing.
The following day his body was found in pieces on the railway tracks at Shaistaganj Junction Station.
