RMG workers to get food at fair prices

The government has moved to provide food items at fair prices soon to garment and knit workers, Food and Disaster Management Minister Abdur Razzak told in parliament yesterday.
The minister said a memorandum of understanding is likely to be signed soon with Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association and Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association to this end.
He said the government will also provide food assistance for three months, through vulnerable group feeding (VGF) cards, to landslide victims in the three hill districts.
VGF cards will be distributed also to flood victims for the same period of time, he said.
Lambasting BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia for her comment that the government has not sent adequate relief for the landslide victims, Abdur Razzak said her remark was 'baseless and politically motivated'.
“Our government has been distributing food and other assistance by visiting the victims door to door. Our method is better than how her [Khaleda] government distributed relief,” the minister said.
“They [BNP government] used to distribute relief in tin barracks,” Razzak said.
The amount of relief provided to landslide victims is increasing daily but the opposition leader did not notice this when she visited the devastated areas, he added.
Razzak said the government has moved to procure modern technologies to warn people in advance about possible natural disasters.
