Domestic help arrested

A woman and her daughter were stabbed to death by their domestic help at Kachubaria-Bhaijora village in Mathbaria upazila of Pirojpur district on Tuesday night.
The deceased are Nazma Begum, 31, wife of Maulana Yahiya Khan, and their eight-year-old daughter Tabassum. The incident occurred at the house of Pir Saheb Hujur Shah Sufi Hazrat Maulana Abdur Rashid Khan, father of Maulana Yahiya Khan.
Police quoted locals and students of the nearby madrasa as saying that domestic worker Badal entered the house at around 9:00pm, closed the door from inside and started stabbing Nazma and Tabassum.
Hearing screams, students of the madrasa and neighbours rushed to the house and saw its door shut from inside. They entered the house by breaking open a window, caught Badal with a sharp weapon and beat him up mercilessly. He was later handed over to the police.
Critically injured Nazma and Tabassum were taken to Pirojpur General Hospital where the doctors declared Nazma dead. Tabassum was referred to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital (SBMCH) but she succumbed to her injuries soon after admission to the hospital.
Habibur Rahman, a cousin of Pir Abdur Rashid, said Pir Saheb Hujur was at his Khanka Sharif and other male members of the family were at the mosque on the madrassa compound to say Esha prayers at the time of the incident.
Police sent the bodies of Nazma and Tabassum to Tabassum to Pirojpur General Hospital morgue for autopsy. Domestic help Badal is undergoing treatment at SBMCH. Sheikh Muhammad Abu Zahid, officer- in-charge (OC) of Mathbaria Police Station, said they will interrogate Badal at SBMCH prison cell.
