Mills fined Tk 27.5 lakh for pollution

The Department of Environment panalised two steel re-rolling mills with a fine of Tk 27.5 lakh in Demra and Narayanganj yesterday for polluting air.
The mills are Bikrampur Re-rolling Mills and Al Aksa Steel Ltd.
Mohammad Munir Chowdhury, director of DoE, who handed down the penalty, said that Demra, Shyampur and Narayanganj port area are under the grip of extreme air pollution with suspended particulate matter four times higher that tolerable level.
