Nat'l Election

Prof Abu Sayeed for alternative interim govt

Former state minister for information, Prof Abu Sayeed, here yesterday suggested an interim government be formed with elected representatives from both ruling and opposition parties for holding a credible national election.
He criticised both caretaker and political governments and said neither of them could make an election credible to all.
“We want to form a democratic government through the parliamentary election, we want to establish democracy. So we must avoid undemocratic caretaker government system".
"This is a matter of ridicule that democracy would be achieved through an undemocratic caretaker government system”, he said.
Pro Abu Sayeed, also a former Awami League leader, also rapped government's move to hold the election under its administration.
“The present political situation in Bangladesh is not suitable for holding a fair election under a political government. Political parties do not believe one another, so how we can hold a fair election this way”, he said.
Prof Sayeed made his recommendation at a sharing session at Pabna Press Club yesterday. President of Pabna Press Club Prof Shibojit Nag and Secretary Ahmedul Haque Rana were present, among others, on the occasion.
