“Nurjahan”, the popular novel by Imdadul Haque Milon, has been adapted into a TV serial. In the serial, Naznin Hasan Chumki plays an important character. The serial is aired on Channel i on Saturdays and Sundays at 7:50 pm. Chumki shared her views with The Daily Star regarding the serial and more.

Tell us about your role in “Nurjahan”?
Chumki: I play the role of Nurjahan's mother in the serial. Since the very beginning I have been expecting a lot from this work. Going by the responses from the audience, I'm feeling that my efforts have paid off. Previously I have also played the character of a mother. But this time the character has yielded a different sort of satisfaction for me.

Would you share some experiences of shooting the serial?
Chumki: We have done the shooting in Pubail. And this month we will go there for shooting again. The set has already been prepared. The shooting was done not only in the scorching heat but also during heavy rainfall. The efforts were worthwhile.

How many plays/serials featuring you are on air at present?
Chumki: About five/six serials are being telecast currently. And alongside I am also working in some new projects.

Apart from “Nurjahan” which drama of yours has drawn the attention of the audience?
Chumki: That is undoubtedly “Sat Saodagor”. It is being telecast on Maasranga TV. The name of my character in the serial is Chini Auntie. And everyone in the shooting unit calls me by that name! I think the audience will like the play for a number of reasons. And the character Chini Auntie is really a funny one!

You are also working as a TV show host?
Chumki: Yes, I have anchored a programme that is being telecast on Desh TV. The name of that programme is “Amra Du'jon Dekhte Kemon”. The show is based on twins -- an entertaining one indeed!

Are you writing scripts as well?
Chumki: Yes, I am doing it on a regular basis. And some of my plays have already been aired on TV.
