Indra Mohan Rajbongshi's tribute to Tagore

Albums Launched at Shilpakala Academy

As tribute to Kobiguru Rabindranath Tagore, noted folk singer Indra Mohan Rajbongshi has launched two audio albums. The albums were launched at Music and Dance Centre Auditorium of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on May 6. Cultural organisation, Geetiangan, organised the event.
The albums contain 15 songs each. One of the albums, titled “Sardhoshoto Jonmotshob-e Shrodhanjali”, features popular Tagore songs including “Amar Matha Noto Korey Dao”, “Adhek Ghum-e Nayan Chum-e”, “Dinguli Mor Shonar Khanchaye”, “Amar Shokol Dukh-er Prodip” and “Tomar Holo Shuru”. The artiste has directed music for the album, while Tagore singer Nilyotpal Sadhya assisted him in properly following the tunes.
The artiste also wrote lyrics, composed tunes, recorded songs and directed music for his other album, titled “Dersho Bochhor Agey”. Songs of the album include “Dersho Bochhor Agey Phutechhilo Ekti Kushum”, “Tomar Shardhoshoto Jonmotshob-e Pronomi Tomaye”, “Okkhoy Omlan Tumi Hey Rabindranath”, “Laho Laho Laho Amar Gaan-er Aurgho”, “Bolo Keno Rohi Rohi” (tappa) and many more. Geetiangan produced the albums.
“The albums are my tribute to Rabindranath Tagore. Marking 15 decades (150 years) of Tagore, I have recorded 15 songs for each of my albums. I composed both adhunik and folk tunes for my second album,” mentioned Indra Mohan Rajbongshi.
State Minister for Cultural Affairs, Advocate Promode Mankin, was chief guest at the album launch while noted poets -- Nirmolendu Goon and Asad Chowdhury; Professor Bishwajit Ghosh of Dhaka University; Tagore singer Nilyotpal Sadhya were present as special guests. Chairman of the Department of Drama and Dramatics of Jahangirnagar University, Professor Afsar Uddin Ahmed, presided over the programme. Director of Geetiangan, Abul Kalam Azad, delivered welcome address at the event.
Later, a musical programme was held at the venue where artistes of Geetiangan presented Tagore songs. Indra Mohan Rajbongshi presented several Tagore songs and his own numbers dedicated to Tagore. His repertoire included “E Monihar Amar”, “Dersho Bochhor Agey Phutechhilo Ekti Kushum”, “O Amar Desh-er Mati”, “Okkhoy Omlan Tumi Hey Rabindranath” and more.
