Mobile banking at union info centres in 3 months

All the 4,501 Union Information Service Centres (UISCs) of the country will be brought under mobile banking services in the next three months to reach banking services to the rural people.
“A total of 1,500 UISCs have already been brought under mobile banking services and the remaining 3,001 UISCs will be brought within next three months,” National Project Director of Support to Digital Bangladesh (A2I) Md Nazrul Islam Khan told journalists at an MoU signing ceremony.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed among the Local Government Division (LGD), UNDP supported A2I Programme of the Prime Minister's Office and One Bank Limited at the PMO yesterday.
Md Nazrul Islam Khan, Joint Secretary of LGD Shamima Nargis and Managing Director of One Bank Limited Farman R Chowdhury signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organisations.
Nazrul, also the private secretary-1 to the prime minister, said the union information service centres (UISCs) have been set up in 4,501 Unions across the country to bring the rural people under the information technology network for improving their lives and livelihood.
Only one in ten people has access to the banking services in the country, he said adding that introduction of mobile banking at the UISCs would open a new chapter in the banking services by bringing the rural people under banking coverage.
Farman said the signing of MoU is an epoch making step for providing banking facilities to the rural people to accelerate the pace of building digital Bangladesh.
According to the MoU, One Bank Limited will introduce mobile banking services at 156 UISCs of Rangamati, Khagrachhari and Rajshahi districts within six months.
