HC askes govt to restore Hathazari temples

The High Court yesterday directed the government to immediately restore the Hindu temples and other structures, damaged by miscreants last month in Hathazari upazila of Chittagong, to their previous state.
During the hearing of a suo moto rule, the court also ordered the government to take steps so that Hindus can perform rituals including Puja at the temples on the fourth day after the restoration.
It asked the inspector general of police to ensure security of the affected Hindus and appropriate steps to arrest the miscreants, monitor the investigation into the incidents and find whether police were negligent in preventing the incidents.
The HC bench of Justice AHM Shamsuddin Choudhury Manik and Justice Jahangir Hossain Salim fixed March 20 for further order on this issue.
