Call to work unitedly imbued with Ekushey spirit

The Amar Ekushey, Language Martyr's Day and also the International Mother Language Day, was observed across the country with due solemnity and in a befitting manner yesterday.
The national flags were hoisted at half-mast in the important buildings' of Chittagong University (CU). Black flag was also hoisted to mark the day.
CU Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof Md Anwarul Azim Arif placed wreath at the central Shaheed Minar of the university at around 8:00am.
Later, in a discussion meeting, held at the Buddhijibi Chattar (Intellectual Compound) of the university, he urged all to work together being imbued with the spirit of Ekushey to materialise the dream of Bangabandhu to build a golden Bangladesh.
Pro-VC Prof Mohammad Alauddin, leaders of CU Teachers' Association, deans of various faculties and activists of various cultural and political organisations of the university paid tributes to the Language Martyrs' by placing wreaths at the Shaheed Minar.
In Rajshahi city, the national flags were also hoisted at half-mast in all the buildings.
As the clock struck one minute past zero hours, hundreds of people and organisations started to pour into the different Shaheed Minars of the city.
Rajshahi lawmaker Fazle Hossain Badsha and City Corporation's Panel Mayor Shariful Islam Babu placed floral wreaths at Bhubon Mohon Park while Rajshahi Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman could not visit any Shaheed Minar due to illness.
Different political parties, professionals and cultural activists placed wreaths at different Shaheed Minars.
In Rajshahi University, Vice Chancellor Prof Abdus Sobhan placed wreath at the university central Shaheed Miner premises at 12:00am.
Rajshahi University Teachers Association, Progressive Teachers Association, Bangladesh Chhatra League, Rajshahi University Journalist Association, Sammilito Sangskritik Jote, Bangabandhu Parishad, students and officials of dormitories and different socio-political organisations also placed wreaths at the Shaheed Minar.
The university authorities as well as different social and cultural organisations organised cultural programmes to mark the day.
