Bangladesh won their first-ever ODI against Ireland by 82 runs in the ICC Women's World Cup qualifiers fifth place play-off at the BKSP-2 ground in Savar yesterday.
Though the hosts' win was the biggest story of the day, West Indies won the tournament through their 130-run drubbing of Pakistan at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium. Sri Lanka took third place with a three-wicket win over South Africa while
the Netherlands finished seventh after they beat the USA by 126 runs.

BANGLADESH-IRELAND
The match petered out in similar fashion to these teams' last encounter in the group stages. The win not only means that Bangladesh are fifth in the tournament but also achieve a ranking of No 9 in the ICC ODI rankings for women.
After deciding to bat first, Bangladesh put up a solid 210-7 in their 50 overs, thanks mainly due to the hosts' first big opening stand. Shuktara Rahman and 15-year-old Sharmin Supta, playing in her first match of the competition, struck half-centuries during their 113-run stand that lasted 30 overs.
The Irish clawed back with wickets but a quickfire 61-run fifth wicket stand between Rumana Ahmed and Lata Mondal meant that the Bangladesh total went past the 200-run mark. Rumana did most of the damage in the slog overs with her hard hitting knock unbeaten 36 from 31 deliveries which included six boundaries. Pacer Jill Whelan took three wickets for 31 runs.
In reply, the Irish lost wickets after a bright start.
Skipper Salma Khatun took three wickets while Rumana picked up two to confirm the player-of-the-match award.

WEST INDIES-PAKISTAN
Deandra Dottin rained sixes on the Pakistan bowlers as her 95 took West Indies to 250-5 in 50 overs. The first woman cricketer to score a Twenty20 hundred, Dottin smashed seven sixes and five boundaries during her 83-ball knock.
Juliana Nero also stroked to a half-century, ending up with 63 off 98 balls.
Pakistan were stunned by Anisa Mohammed who took seven wickets with her wily off-breaks, ending with figures of 7-14 from 8.3 overs. She was named the player-of-the-final.
