Hamas, Fatah agree on election

The rival Palestinian factions Fatah and Hamas have agreed to hold elections next May, a senior official said Tuesday, in what would be a major step toward ending a four-year rift.
sources said the sides agreed on establishing a caretaker government possibly without current Prime Minister Salam Fayyad.
The Palestinians have been divided between two governments since Hamas overran the Gaza Strip in 2007. The Fatah-led Palestinian Authority has governed only the West Bank since then.
The leaders are expected to formally approve the election plan at a meeting in Cairo on Nov 25.
