Public libraries to turn digital

All public libraries at district and divisional levels will introduce digital management system and e-books to offer people prompt services and easy access to study resources.
Support to Digital Bangladesh will organise a daylong workshop today at the Prime Minister's office to implement the process.
“The digitisation of libraries and e-books will help develop a knowledge-based society,” said M Nazrul Islam Khan, national projector director of Support to Digital Bangladesh.
Nazrul, also the private secretary to PM, said all universities of the country are advised to turn books having no copyrights into electronic form to connect to the digital system.
“The books with copyrights can also be made e-books with permission from proper authorities,” he added.
To achieve the target of making all books in public libraries, schools and universities electronic, a total of 150 officials including one from each public libraries at district and divisional level are participating in the workshop, said an official of Support to Digital Bangladesh.
Earlier in April, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina launched e-books, a digitised compilation of primary and secondary textbooks, opening a new horizon of easy access to textbooks through the Internet.
