Padma Bridge

Muhith says his comments misreported

Finance Minister AMA Muhith has said the news item quoting him on alternative funding for construction of the Padma Bridge was not properly reported in the media.
On behalf of the finance minister his Senior Information Officer Md Shahedur Rahman gave a clarification on the news item yesterday.
The clarification also said the news item on Dr Muhammad Yunus' having no role in stopping financing of the Padma Bridge was also not properly reported.
After a meeting with a US diplomat at the finance minister's office on October 23, Muhith spoke to reporters on different issues including the Padma Bridge project and Nobel laureate Dr Muhammad Yunus.
On the journalists' queries about the necessity of alternative financing for construction of the Padma Bridge, Muhith declined to make any comment. Rather he said the bridge would be constructed according to the existing funding plan.
The clarification said Moody and some other sources asked the minister whether they were facing any problem in getting foreign assistance due to the influence of Muhammad Yunus. Muhith, in reply, said the way foreign aid was received last year, there is no sign of adverse effect.
The finance minister speaks on the basis of a proven reality and also refrains from making any comment on rumour or news based on assumption, the clarification added.
