Berger Award for young architects

Berger Paints Bangladesh Limited (BPBL) organised an award giving ceremony for the students of architecture (2010), in collaboration with the Department of Architecture, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) on October 22. The event was held at BUET auditorium, says a press release.
Professor Habibur Rahman, Pro-Vice Chancellor of BUET, was present as the chief guest. Professor S.M. Nazrul Islam and Rupali Chowdhury, managing director of Berger Paints, were present as special guests.
Architect Jalal Ahmed, general secretary of Institute of Architecture Bangladesh; noted painter Hashem Khan; Dr. Shabbir Ahmed, Professor Shaheda Rahman and Ahsan Ullah Majumder -- from the Department of Architecture, BUET, were the members of the jury.
As part of its corporate social responsibility, Berger introduced the programme in 2006 to promote and inspire young architects. A total of 19 participants -- in four categories -- were awarded at the function. The categories were Berger Travel Grant, Berger Best Portfolio Award, Berger Promising Designer Award and Berger Best Design Award.
The award giving ceremony was followed by a musical performance by Shironamhin. An exhibition on the submissions of projects is now on at BUET campus. It will continue till October 27.
