Sukumar Barua gets Kabir Chowdhury Shishu Sahitya Puraskar


Eminent rhymester Sukumar Barua has been conferred with the Kabir Chowdhury Shishu Sahitya Puraskar 2010. He has received the award for his exceptional contributions to Bengali literature. The award, worth Taka one lakh, will be formally presented at a ceremony at Bangla Academy shortly. The prize money has been provided by National Professor Kabir Chowdhury.
Barua's rhymes make readers laugh quietly. His humour is uncomplicated, endearing and thought-provoking. He is very careful about choosing each word and stanza of his rhyme.
Sukumar Barua was born on January 5, 1938 at Binjuri in Chittagong. He worked at Institute of Nutrition and Food Science, Dhaka University. His publications include 'Pagla Ghora', 'Bhijey Biraal', 'Chondona Ranjonar Chhora',' EloPathari', 'Nana Rang-er Din', 'Sumar Baruar 101 ti Chhora', 'Nodir Khela' and 'Kichhu Na Kichhu'.
