Khaleda slates govt for Padma Bridge graft

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia yesterday slammed the government over the corruption allegations involving the Padma bridge project.
“This is the first time since independence that the World Bank has suspended funding for a development project for corruption allegations,” Khaleda said at the inauguration of a political training programme at her Gulshan office in the capital last night.
The leader of the opposition said the project's fate is now uncertain for sure.
She said Awami League has given politics a bad name by giving nominations to businessmen and wealthy people.
Recalling BNP founder Ziaur Rahman's remark that he would make politics difficult for the politicians, Khaleda said, “He [Zia] meant to stop drawing-room politics and make sure that politicians go to the masses for their welfare.”
She said the present government is misguiding people, particularly the youth, by using the media.
