Atomic Energy Centre

Powerless for 3 weeks!

The Atomic Energy Centre Dhaka on the Dhaka University campus remained without power for three weeks due to technical glitch in the transformer that manages the electricity in the organisation.
Muhammad Ali, director of the centre, said the faulty transformer would be replaced and hoped to restore power supply today.
The Atomic Energy Centre Dhaka is under Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC). It provides analytical services like measuring radioactivity in exported and imported food items. It also gives licence to hospitals and clinics for radiation installations like x-ray machines.
Almost all operational and functional activities of the centre have remained halted for some three weeks due to the power cut.
“Virtually nothing has been done in the offices or laboratories during this time,” said Robiul Islam, a researcher at the centre.
“Most of the machine has remained inoperative and many staff did not attend the office as the air conditioners were not working in the heat,” he said.
