Theatre Art Unit will arrange a two-day programme on September 22 and 23 to observe the 58th birth anniversary and 10th death anniversary of the late theatre personality S.M. Solaiman. The programme will feature staging of plays, a memorial lecture and conferring the S.M. Solaiman Motivation Award.
One of the leading theatre personalities of his time ('80s and '90s), S.M. Solaiman was born on September 29, 1953 and died on September 22, 2001. Since both anniversaries are in the same month, Theatre Art Unit usually arranges one programme to observe both.
The first and second day's programmes will be held at the Experimental Theatre Hall and the Studio Theatre Hall, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
The first day's programme includes 'motivation award' giving ceremony, memorial lecture and staging of the play “Amina Shundori”. This year, actress Tropa Majumdar (Theatre, Bailey Road) will receive the award. Mannan Heera, president, Bangladesh Patho Natok Parishad, will deliver the memorial lecture. The inaugural programme will feature noted author-playwright Syed Shamsul Haq as chief guest. “Amina Shundori” will be staged after the opening programme and award giving session.
The second day's programme will feature reminiscence and staging of “Court Martial”.
Sheikh Mohammad Solaiman added a new dimension to the post-Liberation War neo theatre movement through his brilliant use of music and choreography. He wrote and adapted more than 30 plays.
