Gambler beats wife to death

A drug addict young man allegedly committed suicide after killing his wife and three-year-old son at his house near Shyampur bazaar in the town Sunday night.
On information, police recovered the bodies of Ranjit Kumar, 27, his wife Rita Sarkar, 22, and son Sishir Sarkar, 3, yesterday morning.
Police said they found the body of Ranjit hanging from the ceiling fan while bodies of his son and wife lying on the floor.
Police suspected that Ranjit strangled his wife and son and then committed suicide.
Neighbours said Ranjit returned home one week ago after receiving treatment at a drug rehabilitation centre in Singair upazila of Manikganj.
In Pabna, a housewife was beaten to death allegedly by her gambler husband at Degreepara village in Ishwardi upazila on Sunday night.
Family sources said, Hatem Ali often tortured his wife Bobita Khatun, 25, after returning from gambling, reports our correspondent. On Saturday night, Hatem came home at midnight after loosing all money in gambling and started beating Bobita over trifling issue.
When Bobita died early in the morning, Hatem poured poison into her mouth to prove the incident a case of suicide.
However, police rushed to the spot and recovered the body after the neighbours informed them.
Officer in-charge of Ishwardi police station Kazi Haniful Islam said the victim's body bore marks of injuries.
The body was sent to Pabna Medical College and Hospital morgue for autopsy, he said.
Victim's father Monsur Ali filed a case on Sunday night accusing the husband, the OC said.
