Mahbub Jamil, ex-secy Samaddar made special assistants to CA

Business leader Mahbub Jamil and former secretary Manik Lal Samaddar were appointed special assistants to the chief adviser yesterday, with Jamil being the first one to enjoy the status of a minister.
With the latest appointments, the number of special assistants to the chief adviser rose to five.
Chairman of Singer Bangladesh and a former president of Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industries (MCCI), Jamil will be in charge of the ministries of industry, civil aviation and tourism, and sports and youth affairs.
He is also a former president of Foreign Investors Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FICCI).
Samaddar is a former secretary to the planning ministry's implementing, monitoring and evaluation division (IMED). With the status of a state minister, he will look after the ministries of fisheries and livestock, and information and communication technologies.
On January 10, three persons were appointed for the newly created post of special assistant to the chief adviser. They are Brig Gen (retd) MA Malek, former PDB chairman, Prof M Tamim of Buet, and Barrister Debashish Roy.
Meanwhile, the ministry of land has been added to the portfolio of adviser Hasan Arif, while adviser Rasheda K Chowdhury has been given charge of the cultural affairs ministry.
Talking to the reporters last night, Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Syed Fahim Munaim said that the government may appoint one or two more special assistants to fill in vacant portfolios.
