Maasranga Television goes on air

First HD TV channel in Bangladesh

Private channel Maasranga Television started its journey through airing over an hour-long inaugural programme live on July 30.
The inaugural ceremony was held at the Ball Room of Radisson Water Garden Hotel. The programme featured different items including music and dance. A documentary highlighting the culture and heritage of Bangladesh was screened as well. Information and Cultural Affairs Minister Abul Kalam Azad formally launched the channel.
Maasranga Television aims to air programmes and news that authentically highlights the history, culture and ongoing development of Bangladesh. According to the channel officials, it will give priority to diversity in programmes. Thirty percent of its airtime will cover news and the rest will have a variety of programmes everyday.
Speaking on what sets the channel apart, Syed Fahim Munaim, chief executive officer and chief editor of Maasranga Television, said: “This is the first Bangladeshi TV channel to broadcast in HD (high definition) format -- ensuring high resolution, clearer, life-like images.
“We won't have 10/12 minute long commercial breaks during a 30 minute programme/TV play either. For a 30-minute programme, there'll be two breaks -- each lasting three minutes.”
“Among the highlights is 'Ranga Shokal' (everyday, from 7am to 9am) -- a show that'll start the day on a positive note, featuring noted personalities,” he added.
Today on the channel, drama serial “Window” will be aired at 8:30pm, while another serial “Shantaran” will be aired at 9pm. “Gaanpoka”, a musical show featuring bands, will be aired at 11pm and talk show “Shomoshomoy” will be aired at 12am.
