23 scientists get gold medals

Bangladesh Academy of Science (BAS) yesterday recognised 23 scientists for their achievements in different fields of science contributing to sustainable development of the country.
State Minister for Science and Information & Communication Technology Yeafesh Osman distributed the award titled “Academy Gold Medal” at a function at Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the city.
President Zillur Rahman who was scheduled to attend the award giving ceremony as the chief guest, could not join the event as he fell sick suddenly in the morning.
Of the scientists, 21 are science teachers of different public universities while one from East West University and the other from a research organisation.
The awardees are M M Shahidul Hassan, Dr Tanvir Noor Baig, Dr Muniruddin Ahmed, Dr Md Khaled Hossain, Dr M Feroze Ahmed, Dr Shariff Enamul Kabir, National Professor Dr Mohammad Rafi Khan, Dr Khondkar Siddique-e-Rabbani, Dr M Sohel Rahman, Dr Md Fazlul Awal Mollah, Dr Md Siddiqur Rahman, Dr Md Tofazzal Hossain Tarafder, Dr Mohammad Idrish Miah, Dr M Jahiruddin, Dr Abdullah Harun Chowdhury, Dr Haseena Khan, Dr M Q K Talukder, Dr Mohammed Mizanur Rahman, Dr Sabita Rezwana Rahman, Dr Abdullah Shams Bin Tariq, Dr S M Abdur Rahman, Dr Nasima Akhter, and Dr Mohammad Musharof Hossain.
BAS President Prof Dr M Shamsher Ali and Secretary Prof Dr Naiyyum Choudhury, Academy fellows and vice chancellors of different public and private universities attended the ceremony.
