No clue yet to bomb attack on Meherpur councillors

Police are yet to find any clue to the bomb attack on two municipal councillors in Meherpur on Friday night.
The councillors are Mizanur Rahman Ripon, 40, and Abdullah Bin Hashem, 44.
A case was filed with Meherpur Sadar police station in this connection. Abdul Halim, father of councillor Mizanur Rahman filed the case.
The accused in the case are president of Meherpur district Awami League (AL) Golam Rasul, general secretary Kazi Miajan Ali and general secretary of district unit Jubo League Abdullah Al Mamun Bipul.
Councillor Mizanur is also general secretary of municipality unit Jubo League.
Police picked up Abdullah Al Mamun Bipul on Friday night soon after the incident for quizzing.
Contacted, Superintendent of Police (SP) of Meherpur Md Sharier said police launched a drive to arrest the culprits immediately after the incident.
According to police, Mizanur and Hashem were at Rajdhani Store, a cosmetics shop owned by Mizanur at around 9:30pm when four people came there on two motorbikes and threw two bombs at the store.
Besides the councillors, three employees of the shop-- Nurul Islam, Nayan and Milon-- sustained injuries in the attack.
The injured were taken to Meherpur General Hospital where doctors sent Mizanur and Nayan to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital as their condition deteriorated.
Earlier on March 27, a BNP activist was killed in a bomb attack in Mujibnagar upazila headquarters in Meherpur.
The dead was Bina Khan, 35, an activist of the party also son of Mujibnagar upazila unit BNP president Ibrahim Hossain.
Police are yet to make any headway in the case, too.
