Lalu bhai undergoing treatment

AFM Abdul Ali Lalu

AFM Abdul Ali Lalu, once a popular comic actor, is now undergoing treatment at Ward No. 14, Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH). He was admitted at MMCH on December 27 with high blood pressure, diabetes, asthma and heart disease.
The elderly artiste is better known to a generation of TV and film audience as “Lalu Bhai”. His family, with meagre income, cannot bear all of the medical bills.
Lalu Bhai, a 'special category' level artiste of BTV, also an inseparable part of the Mymensingh cultural arena, does not know how his treatment costs will be met. According to family sources, his condition has somewhat improved but the doctors have suggested more tests to diagnosis his ailment. He will have to stay another week at MMCH, sources said.
Lalu Bhai's wife Halima Khatun said that no one from any of the cultural organisations has contacted them yet. “My husband was once a busy entertainer and a familiar face on TV and in films but now he lives like a pauper,” said Halima, on the verge of tears. She urged the authorities of BTV and Film Development Corporation (FDC) to take some endeavours as soon as possible to aid the ailing artiste.
Lalu Bhai has had a long history with radio, BTV and the film industry. His career as an actor took off in 1962 through his role in the film Shurjo Snan.
He acted in more than 100 films throughout his career. He also worked with Abdul Jabbar Khan, director of the first Bangla feature film Mukh O Mukhosh. Among films Lalu Bhai acted in are: Dui Diganto, Raja Elo Shahorey, Abanchhito, Dharapat, Shonali Akash, Ka Kha Ga Gha Umo, Protikar, Naachghar, Janajani, Kotha Dilam, Abirbhab, Achena Atithi and Matir Pahar.
