BSF killed 136 Bangladeshis since 2009

As many as 136 Bangladeshi citizens were killed and 170 others injured by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) since January 2009, Home Minister Sahara Khatun told parliament yesterday.
Replying to lawmakers' queries, the home minister also said both the Bangladesh and Indian governments are now working to reduce number of border killing to zero.
Giving the yearly statistics of killing of Bangladeshi nationals by the BSF, Sahara Khatun in a scripted reply informed the House that 67 Bangladeshis were killed and 80 other were injured in 2009 and 60 were killed and 87 others were injured in 2010.
She added that nine Bangladeshi nationals were killed and three others injured by the BSF as of March 14, 2011.
The home minister claimed due to government measures, killing of Bangladeshi citizens by BSF has been reduced.
"The Indian side has assured us that they will take necessary measures to stop killing of innocent people in the border areas," she said.
She also informed the House that the Indian government has already supplied non-lethal weapons [rubber bullets] to BSF on experimental basis.
