Qayyum Chowdhury's 79th birthday celebration

Qayyum Chowdhury is one of the most celebrated contemporary Bangladeshi artists. His immense contribution to Bangladeshi art, over the last six decades, has earned him international acclaim as well.
On March 9, this veteran artist turned 79. On the occasion, Bengal Gallery of Fine Arts threw a birthday bash for the artist at Bengal Café in Dhanmondi, Dhaka. Fans and well wishers from different sections of the society wished the artist with flowers, sweets and gifts.
Noted educationist Borhanuddin Khan Jahangir; novelist Hasnat Abdul Hai; Subir Chowdhury, director of Bengal Gallery; Abul Khair, chairman of Bengal Foundation; artists Syed Jahangir, Hashem Khan, Monirul Islam, Ranjit Das, Mohammad Shamsudohha, Mohammad Iqbal, Anisuzzaman, Maksuda Iqbal Nipa; cultural personality and lawmaker Asaduzzaman Noor; Kamal Lohani, director general of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy; among others, wished him at the programme.
Chowdhury was born in 1932 in Feni. He graduated from Government. Institute of Arts (now Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Dhaka) in 1954.The artist has held four solo exhibitions and he has participated in many group exhibitions at home and abroad.
