Four new city corporation to be set up

The government has moved to set up four city corporations in the areas of eight municipalities, LGRD Minister Syed Ashraful Islam told the House yesterday in a scripted answer.
The minister said the eight municipalities are Narayaganj, Siddhirganj, Kadamrasul, Rangpur, Gazipur, Tongi, Comilla and Comilla Sadar Dakkhin.
"Formation of the four city corporations will be declared on completion of all necessary tasks," he said.
With these, the number of city corporations in the country will increase to 10.
In absence of the LGRD minister, State Minister of the ministry Jahangir Kabir Nanok replied different supplementary queries of lawmakers on various subjects.
He said DCC officials sacked on 'political grounds' during the past BNP-Jamaat government will be reinstated. Nanok said there are around 4,700 slums in the capital where around 35 lakh people live.
State Minister for Youth and Sports Ahad Ali Sarker told the House that Bangladesh will not earn any financial profit by organising the World Cup Cricket 2011.
