Policy on ship breaking soon: Dilip Barua

The government has decided to formulate a policy for setting up an environment-friendly ship breaking industry in the country.
“The industry ministry will formulate a policy for setting up an environment-friendly ship breaking industry soon,” said Industries Minister Dilip Barua at a function at the Dhaka Club Limited auditorium in the city yesterday.
Managing At The Top (MATT) course under the establishment ministry organised the function on the eve of concluding a pilot project on air pollution and traffic congestion. The students of the Bangladesh Public Administration Training Centre implemented the project.
Vice-chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Dr Pran Gopal Dutta read out a key-note paper on the session.
Chaired by MATT-2 leader Tapan Kumar Nath, the function was addressed, among others, by Dhaka Club Limited President Sadat Selim and Secretary Mujidul Islam.
Dilip Barua said the government has also decided not to provide any approval for setting up such an industry, which is harmful to public health.
“We will provide all-out support to the entrepreneurs to set up industries free from pollution and mishaps,” he said.
