Happy New Year

Yesterday was the first day of the English year. In spite of the tight security and restriction imposed by the authorities to avoid any untoward incident, city dwellers celebrated the first hour of the New Year with much fanfare. Sweetmeat shops and flower outlets saw a crowd of customers as people greeted the year 2008 with sweets and petals.Photo: Syed Zakir Hossain
