Govt orders to restore Zahir Raihan's house

The government has ordered actions to restore possession of an “abandoned house” at Mohammadpur in the city that was allocated to the family of martyred intellectual Zahir Raihan, as investigations revealed a case of forgery and intimidation by grabbers in ousting them from the property.
“The actions were ordered last week as the usurpers are now constructing a nine-storey building demolishing the original one-storey structure ousting the martyr's family five years ago,” said an official of housing and public works.
Bangabandhu government allotted the abandoned house on 7.5 kathas of land at 1/19, Block-B, Humayun Road of Mohammadpur to Raihan's wife Sumita Devi, as she became helpless following the disappearance of her husband right after the independence.
Anal Raihan, son of Raihan and Devi, said the grabbers intimidated him and his brother's family, as they continued to live in the house after their mother's death in 2004.
In July 2006, they were forced to leave the house and took to a rented house in a nearby area, said Anil. But Suruj Mia (the intimidator) asked us not to enter Humayun Road, he added.
Deputy Secretary Hemayet Hossain said probes by NSI found that Suruj Mia first ousted the family through intimidation and then under a “staged game” one Parvez Alam appeared as a claimant of the property with “false papers”.
Alam obtained a lower court decree after a single day hearing on the “got up case” submitting fake papers. Alam also obtained a High Court judgment producing false records once again.
