No Biz Like Showbiz

Moutushi Biswas is a recognised dancer, model, and TV show host. These days, she has set her sights on TV serials and feature films. Recently, The Daily Star (TDS) talked to her about her thriving career in showbiz and her future plans.
TDS: Tell us about your initiation into show business.
Moutushi: I won a gold medal in Manipuri Dance when I was in Class 7. Then I was a ramp model for a while, and also worked with Afzal Hossain during that period. Later, I hosted a show, "Adventure Bangladesh", aired on ETV. After that I acted in Mostafa Sarwar Farooki's drama serial, "Ekannmoborti". By then I was very much into showbiz, sort of fell in love with it, you could say.
TDS: But you took a break?
Moutushi: Yes. I took a job at a bank. You probably can't do much creative work when you are a banker. After about a year I got married in 2007. My husband was based in Delhi then. So I quit my job at the bank and left for Delhi.
TDS: You have also worked in "Bachelor". Tell us about your experience of working in a film.
Moutushi: Farooki offered me the role while I was working in his drama serial "Ekannoborti". Acting in a film didn't seem all that different to me. Some of the equipments, namely the cameras, were obviously different.
"Bachelor" was a big success.
TDS: Plays that you consider special…
Moutushi: I haven't actually performed in that many plays; I've always been selective. Farooki's "Ekannoborti" is one of my favourites. Other remarkable plays include Giasuddin Selim's "Shongshoy", Chayanika Chowdhury's "Koshto Koshto Shukh" and Animesh Aich's "Reter Golpo".
TDS: What are your plans for future?
Moutushi: I don't want to take up roles indiscriminately. In other words, I'll remain selective about the roles I play.
TDS: What keeps you busy these days?
Moutushi: I've been cast in the role of a film actress in Arun Chowdhury's "Rumali", which is an adaptation of a popular Humayun Ahmed novel. It's pretty interesting to play the role of a filmstar. I've just finished working for a play, which is set in Bangkok. I'm getting more offers of late.
TDS: How do you feel about working on a film after a hiatus?
Moutushi: I've just started working on a film, titled "69 Patla Khan Lane ", which is very humorous. I'm optimistic about its success.
TDS: Do you want to be a regular in films?
Moutushi: No. There is less probability.
