Mayor Hanif's death anniversary today

Today is the fourth death anniversary of Mohammad Hanif, the first elected mayor of Dhaka City Corporation (DCC) and an Awami League leader.
Four years back on this day, Hanif died at the city's Apollo Hospital due to a prolonged illness and multiple organ failures.
He served as the DCC mayor for eight years from March 12, 1994 to April 4, 2002.
He was also a close aide to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and contributed to every democratic movement.
Hanif was an elected parliament member from Dhaka-12 constituency in 1973 and served as a whip of the national parliament.
President Zillur Rahman, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Speaker of the Parliament Md Abdul Hamid Advocate delivered separate messages marking the death anniversary.
