3 win Asia Journalism Awards

Three Bangladeshi journalists have won Tokyo-based Developing Asia Journalism Awards (DAJA) 2010 on Friday, says a press release.
AZM Anas and Raihan M Chowdhury of Financial Express and Syed Zain Al Mahmood of The Independent grabbed the prizes in the annual event of Asian Development Bank Institute.
ADBI invited 20 journalists across the Asia-Pacific countries as finalists of this year's DAJA to join the award ceremony and handed over the prizes among the winners held at the ADBI office building in Tokyo.
Anas and Syed Zain stood first in 'Life in the city' and 'New growth paths' categories respectively while Raihan became runners-up in 'The shape of Asia to come' category.
The articles written by Anas, Syed and Raihan titled 'Spectre of eviction stalks slums', 'Prosperity in diversity' and 'Regional connectivity: Bangladesh should move fast' appeared in The Financial Express and The Daily Star respectively.
Apart from Bangladesh, journalists from India, China, Philippines, Pakistan, Cambodia, Solomon Islands and Kyrgyz Republic also won in their respective categories.
Top officials of ADB, ADBI, diplomats and Japanese journalists attended the ceremony.
"The DAJA competition is a unique opportunity to highlight the significant contribution of journalism and individual journalists to the development process in Asia," said Masahiro Kawai, dean and CEO of ADBI.
DAJA 2010 focused on four themes expected to have long-term impacts on development trends in Asia and the Pacific -- urbanisation, environmental issues, and rebalancing economic growth in the wake of the global financial crisis and regional cooperation and integration.
A panel of international judges assessed the articles submitted by around 200 journalists of 20 Asia-Pacific countries.
Mridhu Khullar of India won the 'development journalist of the year' award.
Bangladesh Ambassador in Japan Majibur Rahman Bhuyian also attended the ceremony.
