'Arrest culprits or face non-stop agitation'

Newsmen of different national and local dailies and electronic media brought out a silent procession in the town yesterday protesting attack on Rangpur correspondent of The Daily Jugantar Mahbub Rahman on Saturday.
Started from Rangpur Press Club, the procession paraded the main roads of the town and terminated near the office of superintendent of police.
Later they gave a memorandum to Rangpur divisional commissioner Md. Jasimuddin and superintendent of police Saleh Mohammad Tanvir.
Earlier, the leaders of Rangpur Press Club issued an ultimatum of 72 hours effective from Monday to the law enforcers to arrest the criminals who stabbed Mahbub.
President of Rangpur Press Club yesterday said, "We will go for continuous movement if the law enforcers fail to arrest the culprits in next 72 hours."
Condemning the attack, the journalists on Sunday held a protest meeting on the premises of Rangpur Press Club presided by club president Sadrul Alam Dulu.
They took up a series of programmes including silent procession towards the office of police superintendent and deputy commissioner on Monday and a rally on Rangpur Press Club premises with the journalists of the northern districts on Thursday and wearing of black badge for seven days.
Meanwhile, Mahbub Rahman Habu has been undergoing treatment at a private hospital at Dhap in the town. He was critically stabbed on his back and right arm on Saturday at about 8:00pm.
Mahbub said he could not identify the persons who stabbed him but apprehended three reasons for the attack.
He said he filed a report on tender scam a few days back which involved some local ruling party leaders.
"They might hire unknown people to stab me," he said.
"Also the culprits who leaked question papers meant for the written test for appointment in public high schools in July might engage hired goons after coming out of jail on bail," he added.
