Top outaw killed in 'shootout'

A leader of outlawed Biplobi Communist Party (BCP) was killed in a 'shootout' with the law enforcers in Harinakunda upazila of Jhenidah early yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Mozam Sardar, 32, son of Baburali Sardar of Pultadanga Taherhuda village in Harinakunda.
Jahangir Alam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Harinakunda Police Station, said a joint force of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) and Harinakunda police raided a field of Gopinathpur village on information that eight to ten members of the outlawed party were gathered for a clandestine meeting at 3:00am.
The outlaws, sensing their presence, opened fire on the law enforcers forcing them to retaliate, said Jahangir Alam.
Mozam Sardar was found dead on the spot after the gunfight, although his acomplices managed to flee, the OC said.
Deceased Mozam Sardar was accused of five cases including murder, abduction and robbery.
Police recovered two light guns and seven bullets from the spot.
The victim's body was sent to Jhenidah Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
