Khulna AL expels two leaders

Two leaders of Khulna Awami League have been expelled from the party for their alleged involvement in criminal activities.
The expelled leaders are Kazi Fazlur Rahman Mahabbat, cultural secretary of AL Khalishpur unit and Sheikh Afsaruddin, president of ward-26 unit of the party.
Action has been taken against the two for their involvement in criminal activities detrimental to image of the party, said a press release issued yesterday by office secretary of city Awami League Mahbub Alam Shohag.
The press release bears the signatures of state minister for Labour and Manpower Begum Mannujan Sufian, Khulna City Mayor and President of city Awami League Talukder Abdul Khaleque, City AL General Secretary Mizanur Rahman, President and General Secretary of Khalishpur unit AKM Sanaullah Nannu and Abul Kalam Azad, President and General Secretary of Sonadanga unit Monirul Islam Bashar and Shajahan Parvez.
According to press release, Kazi Fazlur Rahman Mahabbat is the principal accused in a case recorded against him on May 27 this year with Khalishpur Police Station for his direct involvement along with eight others in the murder of freedom fighter Altaf Hossain.
After getting release on bail following a High Court order on August 22, Fazlur Rahman and some of his accomplices threatened to kill the complainant of the murder case on September 8, the press release said.
Besides, Fazlur Rahman is also a suspect in a dozen of criminal cases filed against him with Khalishpur Police Station during the last one and a half years, the press release added.
Meanwhile, Mahmuda Mukta, daughter of slain freedom fighter Altaf Hossain, yesterday demanded immediate arrest of the expelled AL leader Kazi Fazlur Rahman Mahabbat and other accused in the case and cancellation of their bail orders.
She made the demands while addressing a press conference at Khulna Press Club.
