5 Shibir leaders held near RU

Five Shibir leaders, all students of Rajshahi University, were arrested Tuesday night in a case filed against them for assaulting police during the February 9 campus violence.
Officer-in-charge Abdul Khayer of Matihar Police Station said the arrests were made at Kajlagate area while the Shibir men were going to Rajshahi city from Natore to hold a secret meeting.
Police suspected that the Shibir men, three of whom are unit leaders of different areas near the university, were planning acts of sabotage.
The detainees are Mohammad Habibullah, 25, president of Katakhali unit; Abdul Hye Siddique, 25, the unit's general secretary; Nuruddin, 24, president of Narkelbaria unit; Sohel Rana, 26, general secretary of agriculture faculty unit at RU; and Shakhawat Hossain Sumon, 24, a high ranking activist.
A clash between Bangladesh Chhatra League and Islami Chhatra Shibir erupted on February 9, killing RU unit BCL activist Faruk and injuring at least 100 students.
