Huda's jail sentence scrapped

The High Court (HC) yesterday scrapped 12 years' jail sentence of former BNP communications minister Nazmul Huda in a corruption case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
A Special Judges' Court on April 3, 2008 sentenced him to 12 years' imprisonment on charge of amassing wealth illegally and concealing information to the ACC.
An HC bench of Justice Syed Muhammad Dastagir Husain and Justice AKM Zahirul Hoque yesterday delivered the verdict after granting an appeal filed by Nazmul Huda challenging the lower court judgment.
Earlier, this bench acquitted 15 people, including 11 political leaders, of separate corruption charges for which they were convicted and sentenced to different terms of imprisonment during the regime of the last caretaker government.
Nazmul Huda filed the appeal in 2008 with the HC against the Special Judges' Court verdict.
Earlier, Huda got bail from the HC in this case.
