Afghan war returnee remanded

An Afghan war returnee who was arrested on August 3 by Detective Brach (DB) of police on charge of planning to carry out subversive activities was placed on a three-day remand yesterday.
Court sources said, Sadar police station officer-in-charge (OC) Inspector Shah Jahan, also investigation officer of the case, produced him in the chief judicial magistrate's court in Satkhira with prayer for seven-day remand on August 3.
After a long hearing, Judge AHM Samsul Arefin of the chief judicial magistrate's court granted a three-day police remand yesterday.
Accused Ziaur Rahman, 42, son of Abdul Karim Sardar of village Narkeli is also a local Jamaat leader.
