RU VC, two others summoned

A Rajshahi court yesterday summoned Rajshahi University Vice Chancellor Prof M Abdus Sobhan, Registrar M Abdul Bari and Agronomy Department Chairman Dr M Hasan Tarek for not complying with its order for granting a senior teacher of his due leave and ignoring its order not to execute an illegal promotion.
The Court of Rajshahi Sadar Senior Assistant Judge M Emdadul Haque asked the three to appear before the court on August 26 following two separate contempt of court cases filed by prof M Aminul Haque of the Department of Agronomy and Agricultural Extension.
In one case, the court on August 9 ordered the RU VC and the registrar to grant Prof Aminul's application, seeking 90 days' earned leave and give him a no objection certificate (NOC) as he wanted to visit Japan.
Aminul in the case alleged that the university authorities were not granting his leave and issuing a no objection certificate for political reasons. He wants to visit Japan to attend a seminar.
In another case, the same court in September last year ordered the RU VC and the registrar not to execute the order for appointing Dr M Hasan Tarek as the chairman of the agronomy and agricultural extension department. The court asked Tarek to refrain himself from joining the post.
Aminul alleged that Hasan Tarek, who is junior to him in service, was made chairman of the department in violation of the Rajshahi University Act 1973.
