Dhaka, Delhi to ensure equitable benefits

Bangladesh and India have agreed to follow up on the decisions made during Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's visit to India in January to ensure equitable benefits of the two countries.
The consensus came at a meeting between Indian Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee and Foreign Minister Dipu Moni at state guesthouse Jamuna yesterday.
They discussed bilateral issues and reviewed progress in implementation of the decisions made during the Bangladesh premier's India visit.
Pranab was happy about the signing of the Credit Line Agreement and said it is another leap forward in strengthening ties between the two nations.
Now the challenge is to identify and implement the projects that would benefit the people of both the nations, said the Indian finance minister.
The Bangladesh foreign minister stressed the need for securing progress on sharing the water of Teesta River.
Dipu Moni also raised the issue of greater connectivity among neighbouring countries.
She underlined the immense potential of collaboration in the power sector and said the countries in the region should harness water resources for generating power.
Dipu Moni also discussed with the Indian minister the early resolutions of land border disputes between the two countries in the spirit of the Land Boundary Agreement signed in 1974.
The two ministers agreed on holding meetings soon to discuss all unresolved border issues.
The Indian finance minister was in Dhaka on a four-hour visit to witness the signing of $1 billion credit agreement.
The credit line will be utilised for a range of projects including development of communication infrastructure. Pranab's brief visit provided an opportunity to review the developments and also added impetus to the ongoing process of cooperation.
