Fat salary cheques for two teachers

'Mistake' remains a mystery

An additional amount of Tk 64 thousand was deposited as government salary in the bank accounts of two primary schoolteachers in Pabna during the last one year.
The two teachers are -- Aminul Haque of Char-Radhakantapur Government Primary School and his wife Salma Khatun of Baliahalat Government Primary School in Pabna Sadar upazila.
Pabna Sadar upazila primary education officer asked the alleged teacher couple to return the additional money to the government fund, official sources said, adding that Aminul Haque received Tk 41 thousand while Salma Khatun received Tk 23 thousand in addition to their salary in the last one year.
In July, August and September in 2009 Tk 10077, Tk 11878 and Tk 11878 was deposited in account No 0488101141421 of Pubali Bank, Pabna Branch as government salary of Aminul Haque although his due monthly salary was Tk 6060, According to the bank statement.
In January, February, March and April this year, Tk 13,277 and Tk 13777, Tk 14777 and Tk 19829 (in two phases) were deposited in his account.
Aminul's wife Salma Khatun, who receives her salary through account No 10463 at Agrani Bank, College Gate Branch, drew additional Tk 23 thousand during the last one year. According to the bank statement, Tk 5078 was deposited in her account in October last year while Tk 6078 was deposited in November same year as her salary. But in December last year and January this year Tk 12277 for each month was deposited as her salary. The amounts deposited as salary in February and March this year were Tk 132777 and Tk 120314.
When contacted, Pabna Sadar Upazila Primary Education Officer Md Joynal Abedin said, "The two teachers drew a total of Tk 64 thousand in addition to their salary during the last several months. I have issued them notice to immediately submit the additional money drawn from the government fund."
"We are investigating how the government money went to the accounts of the two teachers," said District Accounts Officer Md Abdul Baten.
Asked about the matter, teacher Aminul Haque said some additional money came to his account 'mistakenly' and he has promised to the office concerned to return the money.
