2 outlaws killed in gunfight

Two regional leaders of Biplobi Communist Party (BCP), an outlawed organisation, were killed in a “factional gunfight” at Bhatsala in Pangsha upazila of Rajbari early yesterday.
The deceased were identified as Abdul Aziz, 38, and Dipu Kumar Biswas, 30, of Kashba Majail area of the upazila, police said.
They were each leading a separate faction of BCP following a longstanding dispute over party leadership.
A fresh row erupted centring the arrest of Sudhangshu Kumar Biswas, a top cadre of Dipu faction, last Thursday night. Dipu faction blamed his rival Aziz group for informing the law enforcers of Kumar's whereabouts, which flared the dispute further and eventually led to the “gunfight.”
“Over the issue, both groups went into confrontation and we increased vigilance in the area to avert any untoward situation,” said Munshi Mofazzal Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Pangsha Police Station.
Hearing a gunfight at about 4:00am, we rushed to the Bhatsala field but found no one, said Abdullah Al Mahmud, who led the Rab-8 team to the scene, adding that they then returned.
Local people found the two bodies in a ditch in the field and informed us in the morning when we recovered the bodies, the OC said.
“We also recovered two light guns, one shutter gun, three bullets and a machete from the spot,” he added.
According to police record, there were two cases against Aziz for murder with Khoksa Police Station in Kushtia, but none against Dipu.
