20 receive Mother Teresa Gold Medal

Twenty noted personalities including language Movement veteran Abdul Matin have received Mother Teresa Gold Medal on the occasion of the death anniversary of the Nobel peace laureate.
Matin was awarded the medal for his contribution to language movement and life-long efforts for the development of Bangla language.
Mother Teresa Research Council gave away the awards at a function at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the city on Saturday.
Deputy Speaker Col (retd) Shawkat Ali was the chief guest at the programme and handed over the awards to noted personalities for their contribution to different fields.
Others who received the award are Debate for Democracy Chairman Hasan Ahmed Chowdhury Kiron, noted cardiologist Prof Dr MA Samad, CSP Nurul Islam Anu, Nitol Group Chairman Abdul Matlub Ahmed, General Secretary of Swadhinata Chikitsak Parishad Dr Iqbal Arslan, Bouddha Krishti Sangha Secretary Dr Pranab Kumar Barua, Hindu, Bouddha Christian Oikya Parishad Secretary General Neem Chandra Bhowmick, and Convener of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad Major General (retd) Helal Moreshed Khan.
The deputy speaker urged all to come forward to serve the distressed humanity being imbibed with the ideals of Mother Teresa.
He said during the liberation war of Bangladesh Mother Teresa went round different refugee camps and inspired the freedom fighters to devote themselves to the service of humanity.
