AL in disarray

It seems that the AL is ruining itself. The party has lost focus in every field after the huge election victory. This is characterized by :
1. Its lack of organizational activity. The party leaders have become disconnected from the public. The party supporters at grassroots level need to be kept motivated by constant engagement through meetings and consultations.
2.Its neglect of senior experienced leaders. It is reported that the division within the Chhatra League is due to the division among the senior and junior leaders of the AL. The activities of the Chhatra League are the single most important factor contributing towards the slide in popularity of the AL. There is no harm in giving them ministerial appointments forgetting their surrender to the caretaker government.
3. Its internal feuds . This was apparent in the election defeat in Chittagong.
4. Not realizing the importance of the media. The AL does not have a significant media presence. Only a very few AL leaders are seen in the media. There is also no effort from AL to answer opposition allegations. As a result, the people actually believe that the AL is responsible for the current power crisis which is totally false.
5. Its lack of control over the administration. This is because the party has tried to accommodate persons of the previous administration. These people do not have the commitment that will be required to fulfil the AL election manifesto.
6. Its reluctance to place its own people in key positions.
7. Half hearted efforts at reforms of the administration, police, judiciary and local government.
8. Lack of commitment to its own election manifesto which envisions change.
9. Lack of commitment to democratic practices and institutions and solely relying on public servants to run the country.
10. Half hearted effort at trial of war criminals and the return to the 1972 constitution.
It seems that the AL is bent on committing the mistakes of its arch rivals. The memory of our people is very poor. Very soon the misdeeds being committed by the AL will cover the misdeeds of the previous administration and the people will be ready to vote for it. The AL term has just begun. There is still substantial time to change. Unless the party takes immediate remedial action it will face an election debacle in 2013.
