Fast-unto-death

Physiotherapy students fall sick

A number of physiotherapy students became unconscious while taking part in a silent procession on the Dhaka University campus yesterday, the fourth day of their fast-unto-death programme.
The students began their hunger strike at the central Shaheed Minar on Monday to press for their demand for immediate construction of a building for Bangladesh College of Physiotherapy.
Around 300 students took part in the procession that started from in front of the Central Shaheed Minar. During the procession, a number of students became unconscious due to hot weather and hunger strike. They were taken to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH). Condition of six of them is critical.
Meanwhile, Prof Dr Akhtaruzzaman, former general secretary of Dhaka University Teachers' Association, expressed solidarity with the students' demand.
In a press release of Bangladesh Physiotherapy Students Union, the students warned that if the government does not meet their demand soon, they would launch a tougher programme.
