Queen's Baton Relay held

The Queen's Baton Relay ahead of this year's Commonwealth Games in India was held in the capital yesterday with huge enthusiasm among the sports personalities as well as the general people.
Some hundred participants riding on horse carriages, rickshaws and bicycles in a bid to keep the environment pollution-free took part in the relay that had started at the Army Stadium and ended at the South Plaza of Sangsad Bhaban.
Speaker of the Parliament Abdul Hamid received the Queen's Baton to hand over to Alka Lamba , member of the Commonwealth Games organising committee.
Bangladesh is the 69th destination to receive the baton, en route to Pakistan as the Baton Relay, similar to the Olympic Torch Relay, had started on October 29, 2009 from Buckingham Palace and it will end on the inaugural day of the 19th Commonwealth Games to be held on October 3-14 in New Delhi.
State minister for Youth and Sports Ahad Ali Sarker, Bangladesh Olympic Association president and Army Chief Abdul Mubeen, BOA secretary general Kutubuddin Ahmed were present on the farewell of the Queen's Baton.
