Tête-à-Tête

Mila tries her hand at music composition

Popstar Mila has earned a fanbase among young music lovers in the country with her unique singing and style. Her albums “Pheley Asha,” “Chapter-2” and “Re-defined” have been very popular. Recently Mila has recorded songs on FIFA World Cup 2010 and Michael Jackson. The artiste has composed the songs as well. The popstar talked about her latest project in a recent interview. Excerpts:
The Daily Star (TDS): You've recorded a song on football recently…
Mila: The whole world has football fever right now. I'm an avid football fan, so I decided to do this song, “Ami shadhinota, ami auradhita, ami bijoy-er gaan/ Eto kachhey asha, eto bhalobasha, matal khela-e shob pran…” The song is now being aired on FM radio stations. The music video will be aired soon. Upol has written the song and I've composed the tune.
TDS: You're also working on a mixed album that features songs written and composed by you…
Mila: I'm recording at my own studio; have already completed five songs. Of these, “Nechey Ke Jaye” written and composed by me and sung by Kona, and “Phirey Ashlina” recorded by me are being aired on FM radio. Both songs are getting good response. I hope we can release the album this year.
TDS: Are you thinking about a solo album?
Mila: My last solo album came out last year, around Eid-ul-Azha; hasn't even been a year since then. I'm glad that all three of my solo albums have been successful. I don't want to rush into something. Right now I want to focus on composing songs. Female composers are a rarity in our country. I want to have artistes record the kind of songs I want to sing.
TDS: You've recently done playback for films. Do you have plans to be regular in playback singing?
Mila: I don't have any intention to be a fulltime playback singer. I don't think it's my place and I was never serious about playback. I've recorded songs for films including “Bailey Road,” “Most Welcome” and “Matir Prithibi.”
TDS: Apparently you've recorded a song on Michael Jackson…
Mila: Michael Jackson's first death Anniversary is on June 25. I've composed a song, “Hit Beat,” as homage to him. I'll perform the song on “Smile Show” on ATN Bangla.
